Project Location
South 144th Way, between Des Moines Memorial Drive and South 146th Street.
Project Overview
This project was part of the implementation strategy for Burien’s Northeast Redevelopment Area (NERA), supporting changing land uses that introduce new jobs into an area that was left vacant by the expansion of the airport. The project included widening and realignment of South 144th Way between South 146th Street and Des Moines Memorial Drive to meet current standards for increased truck traffic, improve sight distance particularly at the Miller Creek Trail crossing, and provide bicycle and pedestrian routes through the area.
Improvements included:
- Widening and realignment to include two 12-foot-wide general purpose lanes with 5-foot-wide bicycle lanes and 6.5-foot-wide ADA-compliant sidewalks
- Street lighting
- Structural walls
- Stormwater conveyance and water quality treatment facilities
- Replacement of the culvert at Miller Creek to meet fish passage criteria
- Channelization and signing modifications along the corridor
- Landscaping improvements
