Project Location
S 144th Way, between Des Moines Memorial Drive and S 146th Street.
Project Overview
This project is part of the implementation strategy for Burien’s Northeast Redevelopment Area (NERA), supporting changing land uses that introduce new jobs into an area that was left vacant by the expansion of the airport. The project includes widening and realignment of S 144th Way between S 146th Street and Des Moines Memorial Drive to meet current standards for increased truck traffic, improves sight distance particularly at the Miller Creek Trail crossing, and provides bicycle and pedestrian routes through the area.
Improvements include:
- Widening and realignment to include two 12-foot general purpose lanes with 5-foot bicycle lanes and 6.5-foot ADA-compliant sidewalks
- Street lighting
- Structural walls
- Stormwater conveyance and water quality treatment facilities
- Replacement of the culvert at Miller Creek to meet fish passage criteria
- Channelization and signing modifications along the corridor
- Landscaping improvements
