Every six years, the City of Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural
Services (PaRCS) department works with the community to update the
existing Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) plan. Once adopted by
the Burien City Council, the PROS plan helps guide the City’s management
and development of park properties and recreation programs.
The
PROS plan process is a grant funding eligibility requirement set by the
State of Washington Recreation & Conservation Office. The PROS plan
also helps the City fulfill the Growth Management Act planning
requirements for Comprehensive Plan Elements as outlined by the
Washington State Department of Commerce. It also helps the City be
eligible for other state and federal grants for acquisition and
development of parks and recreational facilities.
The City conducts extensive community engagement in the development of the PROS Plan. A major update to the PROS Plan is underway. Learn more about how to be involved with updating the PROS Plan on the Burien Community Hub.
