Parks and Facility Master Plans

The City of Burien has engaged in a master planning process for several parks and facilities.

A master plan sets a vision for a park system, individual parks, open space area, recreation facility, or programs in context of its location, natural resources, and community vision. The master plan guides the delivery of parks and recreation services, programs, and activities in a manner that is consistent with a local government’s comprehensive plan and policy agenda.

The planning process engages stakeholders and gathers community input. It serves as a framework for the long-term use and development of a park or facility and provides policy direction for local decision makers.

Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan

Every six years, the City of Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department works with the community to update the existing Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) plan. Once adopted by the Burien City Council, the PROS plan helps guide the City’s management and development of park properties and recreation programs.

Burien Community Recreation Center Master Plan

The 2008 Burien Community Recreation Center Master Plan validates many years of public input, community surveys, studies and planning efforts. It confirmed residents are requesting more access to indoor public recreation programs and facilities to adequately serve the social, recreation, cultural, and educational demands of the Burien community.
