The City of Burien Invites Community Members to Participate as StormFest Volunteers and Station Educators

Community members can now apply to support the annual StormFest, an interactive stormwater festival for Highline Public Schools sixth-grade students. The festival will occur on June 10, 11, and 12, 2025 at Des Moines Beach Park.
StormFest provides students with an outdoor educational space to learn about the local watershed and sources of pollution, and to brainstorm solutions to prevent stormwater pollution. It was also designed to provide an inclusive and accessible experience for participants.
Available volunteer positions include station educators who co-teach an environmental lesson (with prior training) and are offered a stipend for their time, and general volunteers who can lend their time wherever needed. Volunteers and educators will gain experience in outdoor experiential learning and get the opportunity to meet, network, and learn from other environmentally conscious community members.
“StormFest 2024 was a wonderful experience for me,” said Liz Wonder, sustainability manager for the City of Burien. “It was my first festival with the City of Burien, and a great introduction to the incredible community and schools in this area. The festival is an inspiring mix of people from different walks of life coming together to motivate and educate the next generation. If you are at all interested in participating or just learning more, I encourage you to reach out!"
Those interested are invited to apply online at burienwa.gov/StormFest by May 12. A training day will be held on June 4.
