Special Council Meeting to Discuss Public Safety in Burien

The Burien City Council held a special meeting to hear a presentation and to discuss public safety in Burien.

Public Safety Presentation

Burien Police Chief Ted Boe presented an overview of the Burien Police Department, in addition to updates on recent criminal activity, a preliminary look at 2023 crime stats, and the implementation and enforcement of Ordinances 818 and 827.

Public Safety Discussion

The City Council discussed the topic of public safety and provided the following direction to the City Manager:

  • Explore ways to improve the Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with the King County Sheriff's Office.
  • Bring back a presentation and discussion regarding REACH's contracted services and deliverables.
  • Explore ways to establish rapid response for graffiti removal.
  • Explore ways to impose a vacancy tax on empty or underutilized properties.
  • Review data regarding pedestrian safety.
