Carolyn Hope Hired as New PaRCS Director

Carolyn Hope has been hired as the City of Burien’s new Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Director, effective Feb. 3, 2020.

Since 2009, she has worked for the City of Redmond in its Parks Department, most recently as its Park Planning & Cultural Arts Division Manager.

Hope has a significant parks, planning, and recreation background, and her employment experience includes:

  •  2012-Present: Park Planning & Cultural Arts Division Manager, City of Redmond, Washington
  • 2009-2012: Senior Park Planner, City of Redmond, Washington
  • 2004-2008: Senior Planner, Perteet, Inc., Everett and Seattle, Washington
  • 2005: Division Manager, Professional Service Industries, Mountlake Terrace, WA
  • 1997-2004: Division Manager, Phillips Service Corporation, Renton, Washington

She has a bachelor of arts degree in public administration and political science (summa cum laude, honors program) from the University of Maine and a masters of environmental studies from Yale University.

Hope has significant experience in developing comprehensive and functional area plans and policies for parks and facilities; master planning and capital project development; and capital and operating budget preparation and management. She has managed recreation, cultural arts programs, and community events. She has managed staff members across multiple disciplines and has demonstrated her ability to create a positive organizational culture built around teamwork.
