The History of Seahurst Park

The following history is an abridged text. For the full history of this regional park, learn more.

In the 1960s, the vision of developing Seahurst Park began with former King County Commissioner Ed Munro. King County purchased the beach from Howard Quinn with money that was gained from the sale of another piece of land in Burien.

The park opened April 12, 1975 and was formally named Ed Munro Seahurst Park by King County. The property was originally owned by Robert S. Fox, who also owned the Seattle Lumber Company. The deed to the park was transferred from King County to the City of Burien in 1994.
