SW 165th St Stormwater Improvements Project
Project Name: SW 165th St Stormwater Improvements
Scheduled Start Date: Construction – July 10, 2017
Scheduled Completion Date: October 2017
Project Manager: Dan O'Brien, 206-248-5538 or
Contractor: Reed Trucking & Excavating, Inc.
Brief Overview: Burien Stormwater staff is currently working on a road and stormwater
improvement project on SW 165th St, between 16th Ave SW and 19th Ave SW,
in the Gregory Heights neighborhood. This street has experienced years
of pavement deterioration and seasonal flooding, due to insufficient
drainage capacity and poor quality soils. This project will construct a
new roadway, along with new stormwater pipe and several Low Impact
Development features, including bioretention (i.e. rain gardens). This
new stormwater infrastructure will alleviate seasonal flooding on
private property that has occurred for many years by rerouting flow out
of resident's backyards and into the new pipe in the roadway.
Road closures and detours can be expected, although local access will be maintained.
Project Status: As of September 1, the contractor has completed installation of the stormwater infrastructure in the roadway, as well as the substantial installation of the rain garden items. They are beginning the work to replace the roadway. This work will last all of September. Final project items to be completed after the road work will be the final grading of the rain gardens, planting the rain garden plants, and other landscaping throughout the project area. This work is expected to be completed in early October.
