The differences between the City online inspection request and MyBuildingPermit.com are:> Requests made on the City website are for City of Burien and City of Normandy Park inspections only.
> City of Burien Inspection requests includes Right of Way request with 24 hour notice.
> City of Burien site allows the requester to list any permit number and fill in any address without validation.
> MyBuildingPermit.com is linked with our permit tracking software, so only valid active permit numbers and addresses will work. If someone is trying to request an inspection and has the wrong permit number, they can search by address to find the correct permit number. Contractor’s who use the site frequently will have no problem with the site, but homeowners working on their own project within the City of Burien might find it easier to use the City of Burien requests.

ON YOUR PROPERTY:> All existing and new overhead utility lines on your property must be underground, unless the Public Works Director determines that this is infeasible. A complete application for Deferment of Utility Undergrounding must be submitted to the Public Works Department. After reviewing your deferment application, the Public Works Director also may require you to submit a statement from all utility companies with existing overhead lines indicating if undergrounding is feasible.> If the Public Works Director determines that undergrounding on a property is not feasible, the property owner must sign a concomitant agreement for future undergrounding. The concomitant agreement form is available at the Public Works Department and must be signed, notarized and returned to the Public Works Department with applicable recording fees. The City then will record the agreement.> The Public Works Director also may require immediate installation of underground conduit between your building and the right-of-way for future undergrounding of overhead lines.
2. Time Change (adding time) If available, additional hours may be prearranged. Request will require ten (14) days in advance and may be accommodated if space and Customer Service Representative is available. Please note that not all requests may be granted.
Non Business Hours Seahurst Banquet Room- Cancellations greater than 60 days will be charged a $250 cancellation fee. Cancellations made less than 60 days will result in a $500 cancelation fee.
Meeting Rooms- Cancellations greater than 30 days will not be charged a cancellation fee. Cancellations less than 30 days will result in forfeit of damage deposit.
It is only legal, for non-profit organizations to have a cash bar and they must supply a Special Occasion License ($60 from the Washington State Liquor Control Board) instead of the Banquet Permit ($10 from any local liquor store). The Special Occasion License takes at least 1 month for approval.
We require security for any youth oriented events with alcohol. Examples of these events: Birthday Parties, Baptisms, First Communions, Quinceanera, etc.
For larger rentals with alcohol service and for added safety measures for the facility it is at the discretion of the Facility Specialist and renters may be required to provide security for their event.
If Security is required, the renter must arrange with Washington Patrol Division (253) 867-2060. Renters must show proof of scheduled security service 14 days prior to the rental event. All costs for the security will be paid by the renter.

2. Materials not allowed during rentals include: dance wax fog/smoke machines, push tacks, nails, staples, scotch tape, and duct tape.
4. Amplification that produces sound cannot be audible at the distance of 30 feet or farther from the event area except by special permission (i.e. a “Special Event Permit”) from the City.
5. Major Events will require additional information to address crowd control, overflow parking, and other special circumstances. Staff will determine if a Major Event Request application will need to be completed.
6. Illegal Substances Are Not Permitted in the facility or park. 7. Smoking Is Prohibited in all facilities.
The TBD is funded by an annual vehicle license fee charged on all vehicles registered with the City of Burien. It appears on your vehicle license renewal bill as “TBD.” In 2017, the excise tax increased from $10 to $20.
The first $10 is used to pay half the debt service on a major overlay project that was completed in 2011. The second $10 is being used to expand the annual pavement management program, which includes overlay and other pavement treatments that extend the life of our streets.

The purpose behind prescribing on-street parking times is to preserve the availability of the limited commercial parking within the Burien community as the city grows. This insures there will be adequate opportunity for businesses to be accessed by its customers.

Plumbing:A. Ordinary repairs: Application or notice to the building official is not required for ordinary repairs to structures, replacement of lamps, or the connection of approved portable electrical equipment to approved permanently installed receptacles. Such repairs shall not include the cutting away of any wall, partition or portion thereof, the removal or cutting of any structural beam or load-bearing support, or the removal or change of any required means of egress, or rearrangement of parts of a structure affecting the egress requirements; nor shall ordinary repairs include addition to, alteration of, replacement, or relocation of, any standpipe, water supply, sewer, drainage, drain leader, gas, soil, waste, vent or similar piping, electric wiring or mechanical or other work affecting public health or general safety.

Where equipment replacements and equipment repairs must be performed in an emergency situation (i.e. furnace, water heater, water lines), the permit application shall be submitted to the city within the next working business day in order to avoid penalties.
Permit renewal: A permit may be renewed for a period of no more than 1 year from the date of original expiration one time subject to approval by the building official, as long as no unauthorized changes have been made to the originally approved plans and the applicant continues to make regular requests for inspections. A written request for renewal shall be received prior to the date of permit expiration and the applicant is required to pay an additional fee based on the valuation of the work remaining to be inspected.

Slurry seals are typically applied during warm, sunny weather to accelerate the curing process. The application process requires a one-day road closure. The benefit of the slurry seal application, however, can be hard to see in the first few weeks after the streets first receive slurry seal. Initially, the surface is gritty, where it may have once been smoother. This initial grit is normal. And it is not permanent. The first phase of your street’s transition toward smoothness is the street sweeping, which removes all of the loose aggregate (small rock). This occurs approximately one week, three weeks and two to three months after application. The second phase of that transition is more subtle. And its main ingredient is time. Over time, automobile traffic will dislodge the larger, sharper pieces of aggregate that initially give the road its rough, gritty surface. Traffic will also push the remaining aggregate deeper into the surface. Within a year or so, the smooth road residents remember before slurry seal will be back—with an extra three to seven years of extended life infused into it.

Slurry sealing streets can save near one-tenth of overlay or one-fiftieth the cost of a total reconstruction.
When the slurry is applied, please do not drive on it for at least 4 hours or until notified by the contractor. Driving on the fresh slurry damages vehicle undercarriages. Also the cost of reapplying the slurry may be the responsibility of the vehicle owner. For a short video, please click here.
