Arbor Lake temporarily closed for fishing and recreation

Until further notice, Arbor Lake is closed for fishing and recreation due to a small oil spill in the lake. The playground and surrounding parks are still open.

The morning of February 13, a resident reported a small oil spill in Arbor Lake. City crews joined by pollution cleanup experts National Response Corporation (NRC) assessed the damage and to begin cleanup of the oil by placing oil-absorbent materials in the lake. These materials will be in the lake until the end of February.

Immediate efforts have successfully cleaned up the majority of the spilled materials. Residual material will be removed by the absorbent pads over the next week or two. No harm to wildlife is expected. At this time, the source of the spill is unknown. The City has begun to investigate the source of the spill.

Thank you to the resident who notified the City of the spill. We rely on our residents to help us keep our city clean!
